Masha Station is a collection site for a few thousand small holder farmers who have coffee planted in the hills surrounding the station. Masha was established in 1989. They have seen top placement in Burundi's Cup of Excellence, which is no small task.
Masha sits around 1700 meters above sea level with contributing farmers planted much higher. The area is planted mostly with older bourbon types that were originally introduced to the area in the 1930's by Catholic monks traveling from the island of Reunion (formerly known as the island of Bourbon).
This is a honey processed lot. After being harvested, sorted by floatation and by hand, the coffee was depulped and put on drying tables where it takes about 2-3 weeks to dry. While drying, the coffee is regularly turned and moved around to ensure even drying and often covered at night to protect from passing rains.
